Ankylosing spondylitis  (Auto Immune Disorder), by a promising civil engineer, not only snatches his dreams from life, but only at the age of 40, he forced him to stay in the old age home.

It is shocking to know that such condition of Sachin Gangaram Fatangare, resident of Sangamner Taluka, Maharashtra, has happened in the absence of treatment, when the government in the country is claiming free treatment for the needy through the Ayushman Bharat Scheme.

Sachin is currently pleading for help on social media for his treatment. They need an instant hip transplant. According to the doctors, after surgery, Sachin will be able to stand on his feet and move on.

Health insurance coverage not available for AS patients

Ankylosing spondylitis is under a group of diseases known as inflammatory arthritis. This disease is categorized under auto immune diseases in which patients suffer from unbearable pain in spine and joints as this disease mainly affects spinal cord
Due to Ankylosing spondylitis healthy young person becomes partially disabled at a very young age and is forced to leave his job, talent and social interactions and compelled to live an isolated life.
this is a chronic incurable disease, cause of which is still not known after several years of research.

This disease is managed by rheumatologist but unfortunately availability of doctors specializing in Rheumatology is very limited.

The last hope of patients is Biological Injections which provide some relief and helps the patients to lead sufficient pain free life. The cost of prescribed dosage (5mg/kg) of Biological Injection is around 1 lakh rupees.

It is really very unfortunate and a matter of great concern that the treatment for this disease is not covered under health insurance scheme because this disease is listed under D list by IRDA.

Ankylosing Spondylitis is also not included under critical diseases List even though it makes the life of young patients like living in hell.

In many countries of world, after understanding it's seriousness, this chronic disease has been included under national health policy as well as considered as a critical disease. Specialists believe that it is wrong and unscientific not to consider Ankylosing Spondylitis  as a critical disease.
